Anchorage School District employee April Christianson, in a Feb. 22 letter, asserts that Anchorage spends $5,680 to educate each ASD student per year.

From the ASD website, this year’s budget is $837.1 million, including $86 million in debt service and $117 million in employee benefits. The number of students is 48,734.

I assert that it costs us $17,176.92 per student per year to educate a child in Anchorage.
