Letter: Proposed school voucher bill should end up going nowhere

Published: February 25, 2013

I sure hope the school voucher bill goes nowhere. It hangs on amending the state constitution so that public funds can be given to religious organizations. God forbid.

The separation of church and state is fundamental to our democracy and should be respected. The mandate is there for a reason.

If our legislators think that public education in Alaska is lacking then they should be expending more resources to improve it. Instead they want to drain our public resources in order to support places such as the Anchorage Baptist Temple and the Holy Rosary Academy.

I wish the Republicans in Juneau would take a deep breath and realize not everyone thinks like them.
