Palin buys into conspiracy theory on fed ammo purchases

Published: February 27, 2013

Sarah Palin states in a Facebook post this week that the federal government is "stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest" over U.S. fiscal policy, an idea circulating on right-wing web sites since last year. But, as Politico points out, media outlets and Snopes.com have debunked the idea. The feds say their purchase of ammunition was a routine restocking for federal officers. Palin's claim was part of a Facebook post calling on D.C. politicians to "do your job" in cutting the federal debt. "If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits," she writes, "then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest."
