UAF will entertain Michigan State in playoffs, so Spartans get second trip to AK in three weeks

Posted on March 1, 2013

Man, if you play for Michigan State, a tough evening tonight -- a 5-2 loss to visiting Western Michigan -- got even tougher because the Spartans found out their CCHA playoff fate.

They get to go to Fairbanks for the second time in three weeks -- psych!

Bowling Green's 4-3 loss at Notre Dame assured UAF of finishing sixth in the league and that means the Nanooks in the first round host the 11th seed, which is Michigan State. (Notre Dame goaltender Steve Summerhays of Anchorage helped seal Michigan State's fate with 32 saves against BG).

The UAF-Michigan State series, a best-of-3, starts next Friday night at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks.
