Scott Howes is so good he scored in two games tonight

Former Alaska Aces winger Scott Howes -- your 2011 Kelly Cup MVP -- scored goals in two American Hockey League games tonight. Yes, you read that correctly. And, no, it was not some kind of crazy, scheduled doubleheader.

Howes' Springfield Falcons entertained Adirondack on Feb. 17, and late in the second period Adirondack's Wade MacLeod suffered a seizure (doctors later found a benign mass in his brain -- best wishes to him on a recovery). In any event, the game was called with 3:42 left in the second period.

Tonight, when Adirondack was scheduled to play a game in Springfield, the Feb. 17 game was continued before the scheduled game. Howes, who did not play for Springfield on Feb. 17 because he was hurt and in the process of missing a month of games, was one of seven combined players new to the lineups in that game -- there is a lot of movement in the AHL.

Anyhow, he scored the game-tying goal in the third period and Springfield won 3-2 in a shootout. In the following game, Howes had one goal and one helper in a 7-2 Springfield victory. Howes, who was lighting up the Central Hockey League to a ridiculous degree when summoned to Springfield, owns 5-1--6 and +3 totals in eight games for the Falcons.
