Reports of a man brandishing a rifle closed down the busy intersection of Lake Otis Parkway and O'Malley road for about three hours on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said a large number of officers responded to reports of an adult male pointing a firearm at vehicles at 3 p.m. The intersection was closed and the suspect was located in a house near the intersection and taken into custody at 5:20 p.m. The roads were reopened about a half hour later.

Officers charged Floyd Doyle with Misconduct Involving Weapons. Police say Doyle was intoxicated while in possession of a firearm.

Rumors that area schools were in lockdown were not true, said Anchorage School District spokesperson Heidi Embley, since school was out and the students dismissed as police were closing the roads. However, students were told to use routes other than Lake Otis, she said.
