As a checking-line center for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nate Thompson of Anchorage isn't leaned on for scoring.
Still, the occasional contribution is nice. Thompson -- and I guess we can call him former Alaska Aces center Nate Thompson -- came through big tonight in a 5-2 win at New Jersey, racking both the first two-goal and first three-point nights of his career, and going +3. The career highs on the scoring front came in his 287th NHL game.
In 23 games this season, Thompson owns 5-3--8 and -1 totals.
Also tonight, another former Alaska Aces center, veteran NHLer Scott Gomez, finally got off the schneid and bagged his first goal of the season for the San Jose Sharks in the first period at Vancouver. That strike came after he was limited to just two assists in 14 games with his new club.
