USA Hockey Pacific District Tier I Championships open Thursday at Subway Centre

Posted on March 6, 2013

Lotta young talent this week in Anchorage, where the USA Hockey Pacific District Tier I Championships in three divisions begin play Thursday at the Subway Sports Centre (tween the Seward highways off O'Malley).

At stake are berths to the national championships next month in Pittsburgh in the U-18, U-16 and U-14 divisions.

The host Alaska Junior Aces have a team in all three tournaments. Also from Alaska in the U-16 tournament are the Mat-Su Eagles. The U-14 field also includes the Alaska All Stars and Alaska Grizzlies.

The U-18 field includes the LA Junior Kings, who were national runners-up last season. The LA Junior Kings last season also advanced as far as the semifinals at the national tournament.

The U-18 field includes four teams, and the U-16 and U-14 fields each feature six teams.

There will be pucks pretty much non-stop on two rinks Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Subway.

The U-18 championship game is Sunday at 1:30 p.m.; the U-16 title match is 11:15 a.m. Sunday; and the U-14 championship game is 9 a.m. Sunday.
