Plane overturns while taxiing on Ruth Glacier

Published: March 8, 2013

A Talkeetna Air Taxi plane rolled over Friday while taxiing on the Ruth Glacier inside Denali National Park and Preserve, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

The plane landed about 1:30 p.m. at a lake and was taxiing when it hit some overflow, NTSB investigator Brice Banning said. The plane's ski sunk in, causing the plane to slowly overturn, Talkeetna Air Taxi said in a written statement.

None of the four people in the Cessna 185 were injured, Banning said.

Another Talkeetna Air Taxi plane flew to pick up the pilot and passengers, according to Kalei Rupp, a spokeswoman with the Alaska Air National Guard. The mishap was reported to the Guard's Rescue Coordination Center but did not require help from the military rescuers, Rupp said.
