Michigan State makes it the end of the line for UAF

Published: March 10, 2013

The season ended tonight for UAF.

Have to give big credit to Michigan State, which made its second trip to Fairbanks in three weekends and bagged the first-round CCHA series in three games with tonight's 4-3 win in Game 3.

UAF finished 17-16-4. The Nanooks got one goal out of winger Andy Taranto, who finished the season as the club's leading goal scorer and point producer (16-14--30 in 37 games) and closed his career with 59-51--120 totals in 146 games.

Safe to say Taranto's services will be very much in demand. He's a free agent, so good for him.

The Spartans (13-23-3) and sophomore Tanner Sorenson of Anchorage (13-6--19 in 39) move on to the quarterfinals, where they will face league champion Miami (Ohio).

Also, in the ECAC Sunday, Dartmouth freshman winger Brad Schierhorn of Anchorage generated two goals and a helper to aid a 6-3 win over Harvard in the decisive Game 3 of that first-round series. Dartmouth (15-12-5) next faces Union in a best-of-3 quarterfinal series.

Schierhorn owns 5-5--10 totals in 28 games.
