Alaska All Stars U-14 Tier II girls make nationals

Published: March 11, 2013

The Alaska All Stars U-14 Tier II girls earned the right to play in USA Hockey's national championships next month with Sunday's 3-0 title win over the Alaska Icebreakers at the Pacific District tournament in Anaheim, Calif.

Estee Frantz scored two goals, one on the power play and the other a shortie, and Kirsten Watts added one goal and one helper in support of Vandalyn Hudson's nine-save shutout.

The All Stars went 4-0-0 in the tournament. Saturday, they needed a shootout to beat the Fairbanks-based Icebreakers, 3-2. Frantz, Watts and Summer Charlie scored in the shootout, which the All Stars won 3-1.

The All Stars, who only played with 10 skaters -- so, two forward lines, two sets of defense -- head to the Tier II nationals April 3-7 in San Jose.
