I don’t understand why as a state we are fighting more for the ability to carry guns than for our own kids. Many legislators recently fought hard to promote House Bill 69, yet they refuse to inflation-proof education!
I believe that our most valuable resource should be our kids. Without inflation-proofing education, we will see valuable teachers, counselors and programs drastically reduced. When did we start caring more about guns than kids? Sandy Hook proves more bullets are not needed, but counselors and teachers caring for our children are.
Many people say that we spend too much on education; to them I say this is not the same Anchorage we grew up in. The reality is kids are facing many more challenges today than in the past and educators assist with the success of the “whole child.” We need to be able to provide adequate education for our students to provide Anchorage with productive citizens. It’s time we ask the governor, please, invest wisely in Alaska’s future.
