Some quick college notes from a playoff Friday night

Published: March 15, 2013

Just a few quick notes from conference playoff games in college hockey tonight, starting with all six home teams winning in the WCHA, where UAA got torched 6-1 at St. Cloud State.

The Seawolves have given up 19 goals in the last three games, which is one of the many things that explains their 4-24-7 record and the fact they face the end of the season Saturday night in St. Cloud, Minn.

Minnesota State-Mankato freshman Stephon Williams of Fairbanks made 32 saves in a 4-3 OT win against Nebraska-Omaha. Minnesota outshot Bemidji State 51-18 but didn't overtime to earn a 2-1 win over the visitors. Elsewhere, North Dakota beat Michigan Tech, 5-3; Denver beat rival Colorado College 5-3 and Wisconsin turned back Minnesota-Duluth 3-1.

In the CCHA, last-place Michigan State, which eliminated host UAF in three games last week, started its next series with a 3-0 shocker over regular-season champion Miami (Ohio). Spartans sophomore Tanner Sorenson of Anchorage had an assist.

Also in the CCHA, Notre Dame junior goalie Steve Summerhays of Anchorage made 22 saves in a 1-0 OT win over Bowling Green. That's Summerhays fourth shutout this season and the sixth of his career.
