The St. Louis Cardinals released infielder Ronny Cedeno on Tuesday.

The eight-year veteran spent the 2012 season with the New York Mets and posted a .259 batting average with four homers and 22 RBI in 78 games. He has also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs over the course of his career.

St. Louis also announced the re-assignment of pitcher Tyler Lyons to its minor league camp on Tuesday.
