Recap: Washington vs. Detroit

Drew Smyly threw five strong innings to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals in a spring training clash.

Smyly limited the Nationals to one run on four hits while striking out five without a walk. The left-hander received offensive support from Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez, both of whom went 2-for-3 for the game and delivered RBI singles off Stephen Strasburg during a two-run fifth inning.

Matt Tuiasosopo added a solo home run for Detroit.

Strasburg worked six innings and was touched for three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Ian Desmond had a solo homer and scored twice for the Nationals, with Jayson Werth finishing 2-for-4 in the loss.
