Capitals put Crabb on waivers today

The Washington Capitals today placed right winger Joey Crabb of Anchorage on waivers, the Washington Post reported.

Crabb, who began the season with the Alaska Aces during the lockout, signed with the Caps last summer. Caps coach Adam Oates told the Post the club has an abundance of right wings and must clear roster space for the return from injury of top defenseman Mike Green.

Crabb has two goals and a -1 rating in 26 games for the Caps this season.

If Crabb is not claimed by another NHL team, he could be assigned to the AHL, but that is not certain.

"We're going to see what happens. Hopefully for him he gets picked up. He's been great,'' Oates said. "I said to him, 'You didn't play bad. We're in a little bit of a roster issue, hopefully someone picks you up and you get to play.' ''
