Governor Parnell has encouraged Alaskans to “Choose Respect” on Thursday and walk in support of ending domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska. This is coming at the same time he and the Alaska state Legislature cut $8.36 million in the Department of Behavioral Health and the Department of Health and Social Services. The very programs aimed at reversing the incredibly high statistics of rape and DV are not getting adequate funding. This recent action by Parnell and the Legislature is what I call “Choosing Disrespect.”
Where are the priorities? Children, women, men and families? Or oil companies? I encourage my fellow Alaskans to join me in boycotting this rally at noon Thursday at the Delaney Park Strip. It’s a complete joke that Gov. Parnell expect Alaskans to “Choose Respect” and turn around and gut programs that serve the cause.
