NCAAs: One game down, one upset rendered

Posted by Doyle Woody, on March 29, 2013

Stunning finish to the first game in the NCAA tournament today -- Yale struck just nine seconds into overtime to eliminate Minnesota, 3-2, and dismiss the top seed in the West Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Yale scored twice in the second period and Minnesota bounced back with two third-period goals to force extra time. After that, though, the Gophers of the WCHA were bounced in a hockey heartbeat.

Scoring Yale's first goal and assisting on Jesse Root's game winner was Kenny Agostino, who was part of the Jarome Iginla trade this week and whose NHL rights now belong to Calgary.
