Tough day for the WCHA

Tough day for the WCHA so far -- two of its three teams that opened play today in the NCAA tournament were eliminated pronto and UAA fired coach Dave Shyiak.

Minnesota lost 3-2 to Yale, a mere nine seconds into OT. Wisconsin got stomped 6-1 by UMass-Lowell. North Dakota, though, advanced with a 2-1 win over Niagara.

Still playing from the WCHA today is Denver, which just went ahead 2-1 on New Hampshire late in the first period.

WCHA members St. Cloud State and Minnesota State-Mankato open NCAA play Saturday.
