Nate Thompson suspended two games in his first NHL ban

Tampa Bay Lightning center Nate Thompson of Anchorage was suspended two games by the NHL today for his hit to the head of New Jersey's Matt D'Agostino on Friday night -- that's the first suspension or fine of Thompson's career.

Thompson hit D'Agostino as the latter was fishing for the puck in his skates in the neutral zone.

He has to forfeit two games worth of salary -- $9,727.72, according to the NHL -- and that amount will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
