AHL Toronto signs erstwhile Aces D-man Syvret to AHL deal

The AHL's Toronto Marlies have signed erstwhile Alaska Aces defenseman Corey Syvret to a standard AHL deal -- until today, Syvret had been on a professional tryout contract (PTO).

Not positive what this means for the Aces, who would like to have Syvret back for the Kelly Cup playoffs. They have been thinking about keeping a playoff roster spot open for the blueliner.

What's quite odd is Syvret was a scratch for Toronto today for the 11th straight game and has been scratched for 22 of 33 games since he was loaned to the Marlies by the Aces in early January.

This may be one of those deals where his PTO simply expired and the Marlies either had to sign him or send him back to Alaska.

When The Blog gets some clarification -- i.e. when Aces coach Rob Murray, who knows the ins and outs of the AHL from his time as a head coach and assistant coach there -- he will relay word to you.
