Frozen Four is set

St. Cloud State of the WCHA -- and by the way, that's a team UAA beat this season, though the Huskies eliminated the Seawolves with a first-round sweep in the league playoffs -- advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time in school history today with a 4-1 win over Miami (Ohio) of the CCHA.

Also seizing a Frozen Four spot was Quinnipiac, a 5-1 winner today over fellow ECAC member Union.

Already in were Yale of the ECAC and UMass-Lowell of Hockey East.

St. Cloud (25-15-1) will play Quinnipiac (29-7-5) in one semifinal in two weeks. The other semi will pit Lowell (28-10-2) against Yale (20-12-3).

You gotta give it up for the ECAC -- it qualified three teams into the NCAAs and two of them advance to Pittsburgh for the Frozen Four.

St. Cloud gives the WCHA one team in Pittsburgh -- the league had six teams in the tourney.

The CCHA came up empty for the Frozen Four, as did Atlantic Hockey.
