ANCHORAGE, Alaska — An eighth grader from Central Middle School in Anchorage will represent Alaska at the national geographic competition in May.
Kenny Petrini last week won the 2013 Alaska Geographic Bee at the Egan Center in Anchorage.
For taking top honors, Petrini was awarded $100 and the "Complete National Geographic on DVD."
He competed against 88 other students.
The competition is for students from fourth through eighth grade. He says in an announcement from the University of Alaska Fairbanks that he has been studying for the bee since October.
He won by correctly answering the question, "Which Russian city, home of the Heritage Museum, lies on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland?"
The answer was "St. Petersburg."
