Wine of the week: 2010 Del Rio Vineyards Syrah

April 25, 2013

Once upon a time, syrah was going to be the next big thing, but California syrah sort of died, except for a few bright spots in Paso Robles. Enter Oregon, hitherto unknown to the world of syrah, but it may prove to save the day. The 2010 Del Rio Vineyards Syrah in Oregon's Rogue Valley is putting out a spectacular wine packed with blue and black fruits. It's fat and sappy on the palate. I tasted lots of delicious blueberry, wood and tannin -- a lovely mouthful that I couldn't help but tell you all about. Definitely on my serve-with-big-foods list. Costs about $20.
