Bethel woman sets 3 weightlifting records

The Associated PressApril 27, 2013

— A Bethel native has set three American powerlifting records.

Natalie Hanson set the records at the Alaska State Championships for Power Lifting, which was held in Anchorage.

KYUK reports she set records in the bench press, squat and total weight lifted in her age group and size. She competed in the Junior Division for ages 20-23, weighing under 75 kilograms, or 165 pounds.

She says she didn't even train for the competition. She was concentrating on cross-fit competitions when a friend noticed her natural ability and got her interested in powerlifting.

Hanson, who now lives in Anchorage, will compete at the nationals in Florida in July.
