One person is dead after a single-vehicle rollover Wednesday afternoon north of Anchorage, police said.

The vehicle left the highway, rolled and hit a fence south of a weigh station at about Mile 10 of the Glenn Highway, police spokeswoman Dani Myren said. The driver was the lone occupant, Myren said.

Initial reports indicated the vehicle was headed north and away from Anchorage, but Myren later said it appeared to have been driving in an inbound lane. Two of the inbound lanes were closed after the wreck, she said.

It was not immediately clear what type of vehicle was involved, Myren said. Firefighters rushed to the scene hoping to free the person, who was trapped and died a short time later, she said.

Police have not released the victim's name.

This is a developing story. Check back as more details become available.
