Young people from the Ida'ina Athabaskan Dancers walk to a ceremony to welcome the USS Anchorage. The USS Anchorage, a Navy amphibious transport dock ship, arrived at the Port of Anchorage on Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Tours of the USS Anchorage have closed early due to an overwhelming response, according to Lindsey Whitt, spokeswoman for the mayor's office.

Just after 5 p.m. 1,500 people were waiting to see the ship, she said. No more people will be allowed to get in line.

The ship will stay open until midnight to accommodate tours for those who were already in line before the decision was made to shut things down.
