Alaska Highway celebrated Saturday

Anchorage Daily NewsMay 3, 2013

— An Alaska Highway Celebration, a free community event, will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Anchorage Senior Center, 1300 E. 19th Ave.

The annual commemoration salutes the accomplishments of African-American soldiers who were instrumental in the construction of the Alaska-Canada (Alcan) Highway in World War II.

Organizers said they relocated the event from the outdoor Cuddy Family Park to the indoor senior center because of concerns about the weather.
