The Dimond and South girls teams will collide in a first-round match Thursday when the state high school soccer championships begin at Chugiak and Eagle River.

The showdown between the two Cook Inlet Conference teams, at 5:45 p.m. in Chugiak, is the only first-round match pitting a pair of CIC teams against each other.

Seven Anchorage teams are among the eight boys teams and eight girls teams in the tournament.

The Dimond, West and South boys teams advanced from the CIC, as did the Dimond, South and Service girls. The Grace Christian girls, who play in a different conference, also advanced.

Championship games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Chugiak.
