Letter: Bustling international airport needs more room to expand

May 24, 2013

I am a longtime resident of Alaska and Anchorage. I first flew into Anchorage in 1956 and the airport consisted of one east-west runway, and with the aircraft in those days we enjoyed the Turnagain bounce on our way in. Today the airport is a bustling economic boon and we need to improve the facility to keep our economic advantage in the air cargo and passenger landings. I recognize the loss of a very minor part of the bike and walking pathway with the addition of a second north-south runway but economics far outweigh the loss of the trail. The airport has existed since 1952, the Coastal Tail since only during Mayor Tony Knowles’ regime.
