A teenager is charged with stealing and damaging a Newhalen sewage truck he took on a joyride early Friday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The 17-year-old was drunk when he stole the truck and drove it around Iliamna and Newhalen, troopers said in a written statement. The two villages are about 200 miles southwest of Anchorage on the north side of Lake Iliamna.

The teenager, whom troopers did not name, caused "several thousand dollars" in damage to the truck, the statement says. He is charged with vehicle theft, drunken driving and driving without a driver's license.
