Letter: Thanks for Newtown article

June 15, 2013

Thanks for Wednesday’s story about Newtown parents who continue to fight for changes to the nation’s gun use and ownership laws.

On Dec. 16, the front page with its banner headline “Our hearts are broken” expressed victims’ hopes and dreams that their tragedy would inspire all of us to “be better” at keeping children safe.

It is sad to realize that, when we fail to support the efforts of those parents, we only deepen and prolong their grief.

Let us call Alaska’s congressional delegation to remind them it’s time for courage to reform the status quo: no more excuses!
