Jury convicts man in 2011 Anchorage "snitch killing"

Anchorage Daily News / adn.comJune 17, 2013

A Superior Court jury on Monday convicted an Anchorage man of murder in a 2011 killing in a Mountain View apartment.

Marquinn Jones-Nelson was found guilty of murder, evidence tampering and other crimes in the death of Devante Jordan. The case went to the jury on Friday.

Superior Court Judge Gregory Miller set sentencing for Sept. 20.

The jury found a second defendant, Parrish Harris, not guilty of a weapons misconduct charge related to the killing. A third man, Dorian Topps, pleaded guilty before the trial to evidence tampering for helping dispose of the murder weapon: a .38-caliber revolver.

Prosecutors had described the case as a "snitch killing," saying that Jordan was killed because he had implicated the defendants to the police in another case. Jones-Nelson's lawyer portrayed the shooting as self-defense.
