New UAA coach Matt Thomas, who will be in town next week when the school holds a press conference, has snagged his first recruit -- Anchorage defenseman Chase Van Allen will play for his hometown team, according to College Hockey Inc.

Thomas said when he was hired last month that the Seawolves needed a defenseman, and Van Allen fits the bill.

Van Allen, 20, last season tied for 10th in the BCHL in scoring among defensemen with 7-25--32 totals in 53 games for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. In 14 playoff games, he put up 1-7--8 totals.
