Law officers have eye out for drunk drivers

Associated PressJuly 5, 2013

— Both Anchorage police and the Alaska State Troopers said they’ll have increased patrols looking for impaired drivers through the holiday weekend.

Those who drink and feel too impaired to drive may be able to get free taxi rides home through the “Off the Road” program.

KTUU-TV reported that 40 bars will call a cab for anyone who has had too much to drink and the program will pay the fare. Their vehicles will get home safely too.

For Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson service members or Department of Defense card holders, the Joint Base Against Drunk Driving volunteer program also is available for rides home.
