999 finish Bear Paw 5-K in Eagle River

— Valerie Massae edged Emma Bohman by 1.19 seconds in a race for supremacy between two Anchorage women Saturday in the Bear Paw Classic 5-kilometer race in Eagle River.

Anchorage's Anthony Tomsich enjoyed a 10-second win in the men's race, where the tight battle was for second place -- Buster Hansel of Cuero, Texas, nipped Jake Moe of Anchorage by two-tenths of a second to take runnerup honors.

The annual race boasted 999 finishes, nearly 70 percent of them women.
