— Chugiak Post 33 fended off a late-game surge Saturday to hang on for a 9-8 win over Eagle River Post 8 and become the only Anchorage team to reach the semifinals of the 19th annual BP Exploration Invitational at Mulcahy Stadium.

Chugiak will take on Napoleon Post 300 of Ohio, which reached the semifinals with Saturday's 12-2 win over Service Post 28. The East Texas Canes of Texarkana also earned a spot in the semifinals after taking down Eagle River 13-3. The fourth semifinalist will be the winner of a late game between Woodinville Post 127 of Washington and South Post 4.

Chugiak put up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of its win to lead 9-4 against Eagle River, which bounced back with four runs in the top of the ninth inning. The Wolves had the tying run at second base when they grounded out to end the game.
