Beer mugs with security tags

Posted on July 16, 2013

Foodbeast.com reports that the Swedish cider company Kopparberg now has custom glasses with security tags that spew ink if you try to take it out of the bar. The tags go off when you're about 100 meters from where you're supposed to leave the glass, sort of like the little ink bombs on clothes.

Commentators note that customers swiping special pint glasses is a problem for bars around the world. Some patrons are forgetful, perhaps (alcohol may be a factor), others are kleptomaniacal and still others may be of the opinion that at $6 for a glass of grog, you're entitled to keep the glass.

The saloonista community is now waiting to see whether this catches on with other beer makers or gets defused after a lawsuit.
