Letter: Bidding should be competitive

July 16, 2013

After reading the article: “Eyak case uncovers $1 billion contracting scheme,” (Daily News, Saturday), I am of the opinion that the federal program giving no-bid federal contracts to Native-owned companies be eliminated. The no-bid contracts are like honey for the taking to the bears. Competitive bidding is an honest method of monitoring and controlling the issuance of contracts large and small. It is time that these large mega-dollar Native corporations learn to stand on their own in the competitive market place.
