Letter: Jurors rise to the occasion

July 19, 2013

Apparently the person who wrote the comment “As long as you’re whiter than your victim you’ll walk” (Letters, July 16) has never served on a jury. I have served on five juries and never have heard a discriminating comment from any jury member.

Our writer does not seem to understand that having power over someone’s life is a heavy burden and not taken lightly. People chosen to judge others seem to grasp this responsibility and rise to the occasion. I would like to hear judges respond to this.
