Dalton wins inaugural Her Tern Half-Marathon

The Her Tern Half-Marathon for women enjoyed a strong debut on a sun-splashed Sunday morning, when Anna Dalton of Anchorage earned yet another victory.

Dalton, a former West High athlete, clocked 1 hour, 24 minutes, 50.6 seconds for the 13.1-miler to easily outdistance runner-up Greer Gehler (1:28:15.6) and third-place finisher Emma Bohman (1:28:23.4).

Dalton earlier this summer won the women's division in the Mayor's Marathon, the Trent-Waldron Glacier Half-Marathon and the Faster Than A Falcon 5-K.

Sunday, she blistered the course that took nearly 600 finishers -- and that's an impressive number in an inaugural event, especially for a gender-specific race -- from the west end of the Delaney Park Strip to the University Lake area and back. Most of the race was run on bicycle trails.

The race is believed to be the first "boutique'' race in Anchorage. Racers received a custom bracelet, a gift certificate and a post-race mimosa, as well as a fashion show-block party the day before the event.

Kirsten Kolb finished fourth in 1:28:30.0 and Tara Craytor took sixth in 1:29:32.6.

Of the 572 finishers, 138 racers completed the course in less than two hours.
