Alaska State Troopers say a man is believed to have drowned at Chena Lakes.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the man traveled too far from shore Sunday evening and realized he couldn't get back. Troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain says the man started calling for help but he went under before anyone could reach him.
DeSpain says the man had gone more than 100 yards from shore and was not wearing a personal flotation device.
Authorities launched a search of the area Sunday evening. The man's name was not immediately released.
