Firefighters rescued a man stuck in mud Thursday on Ship Creek near the Alaska Railroad depot on First Avenue.

Two separate witnesses called 911 about 12:50 p.m., according to Anchorage Fire Department spokesman Al Tamagni.

"He was up to his hips," Tamagni said.

Tamagni said he did not know if the man was fishing or why he was on the mud. Firefighters helped him out using a special hose apparatus that pumped water near the man's feet, allowing him to wiggle out, Tamagni said.

"It was a pretty quick ordeal. He was out in 8 minutes after we got there," he said.

There were no injuries reported.
