Letter: Market still a great place

August 1, 2013

I used to be a street performer at the Weekend Market and I loved it with my heart and soul — and I still say the Weekend Market works. I think Bill Webb has done a superb job running it.

Sure, in some ways it has become a tourist trap, but it’s a great place still for artists and artisans alike. Hopefully our downtown leaders will find a way to make it work with a few tweaks — and maybe they will realize that other markets of similar concept work very well in Portland and Seattle.

I believe taking it away from its current location would be like short-circuiting what has become a grand tradition for both Alaskans and tourists alike. It would be a sin!
