Smith plans to reach Anchorage, AK, on August 8, 2013, via ferry from Canada, and the Arctic Circle on August 15-16, 2013. Smith’s journey ends on November 3, 2013, when he arrives back at Miami Shores Presbyterian Church in Miami, Fla. Smith will complete this entire journey while driving his 865cc, 2007 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle.
“This is an exciting journey and I look forward to completing the goals and challenges that are submitted by followers of Arctic Ride for Dreams,” said Smith. “It is all to raise funds and awareness for noble causes, and I encourage anyone who’s interested to either donate to the charity of their choice or sponsor a challenge or goal for me to complete through the Arctic Ride for Dreams website at www.arcticridefordreams.com.”
Smith documents his journey using a GPS device, which can be viewed on the Arctic Ride for Dreams website, www.arcticridefordreams.com, or on the Arctic Ride for Dreams Facebook page, www.FB.com/ArcticRideForDreams. Additionally, followers interested in taking part in the interactive aspect of the tour can sponsor a challenge or goal for Smith to complete via the Arctic Ride for Dreams website.
As a descendent of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, travel and exploration are in Andrew Hayward Smith’s genes. In 2009, he completed a 14,000-mile journey around the United States and published a book “Triumph Across The USA.” Smith’s professional career has been focused on the advertising and marketing of luxury goods and services, spending time as a contributing writer and photographer for the luxury travel publication East-West Magazine, and a contributing writer for the global CouchSurfing.org newsletter. Since 1996, Smith has produced and hosted a weekly, hour-long volunteer radio program for the print impaired on WLRN’s Radio Reading Service. Born and raised in the small northern town of Nantwich, England, Andrew emigrated to Miami, Fla., in 1990, where he still resides today.
