Astronomar returns to Alaska

Posted on August 7, 2013

Word from Chilkoot Charlie’s that Juneau-born DJ Marlon Lumba, aka Astronomar, will have a show at the Spenard bar at 10 p.m. on Aug. 17. Opening acts will include local DJs Gre and Raw-B.

This will be Astronomar’s first performance in Anchorage since he was signed to Mad Decent Records. He’s been on the electronic dance world map since relocating to Seattle and point south, featured on BBC radio and at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.

The Seattle Times’ Andrew Madson called Astronomar’s remix of Goodie Mob’s 1995 “Free” “so great, it deserves its own martini.” Earlier this year, Vice Magazine called him “the next big thing."

Big, maybe. But not so big that 'Koot’s is foisting an additional cover charge on the party, part of their “Trapped in Alaska” series. The press release lists Astronomar’s strengths as “trap, moombahton and hip hop” and promises that the 21-and-over show “guarantees that squat routine you’ve been doing at the gym will finally pay off.”
