Disaster-readiness event takes place this weekend

Anchorage Daily News / adn.comAugust 19, 2013

Participants at a disaster-readiness event this weekend can visit a virtual "Disaster Room" to get a sense of how they might respond in a real emergency.

The Emergency Preparedness Expo from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Mat-Su College will include activities, products and information for all ages to teach survival and preparedness skills. Dozens of agencies will be represented, including Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services, North American Outdoor Institute, and Firewise.

The "Disaster Room" puts participants through various scenarios from vehicle crashes to avalanches to boating accidents to test their preparation, according to event organizers. Products and supplies for disaster preparation will also be available at the fair.

The college is located at Mile 2.2 Trunk Road. For more information, go to www.naoiak.org or call (907) 376-2898.
