Center Tyler Currier of Anchorage -- and we call him a center though he played a considerable amount of defense in his recently concluded four seasons at UAA -- has landed his first pro gig.
The Central Hockey League's Missouri Mavericks have signed Currier for the upcoming season.
Currier, 25, scored four goals in 36 games for UAA last season. In 103 career games, he earned 7-8--15 totals. When he played forward for the Seawolves, he often played on a fourth-line, energy line and killed penalties.
In Missouri, he'll run into several guys with Alaska connections. The Mavs include former Alaska Aces Dave Pszenyczny (or as Mrs. Blog calls him, Davey Alphabet), John-Scott Dickson and Shane Owen.
Speaking of the Central circuit and former Seawolves, ex-UAA forward Jade Galbraith (and by "ex'' we mean ever so briefly -- three games in 2000 before he bounced) has signed with the Arizona Sundogs. Galbraith has spent the last seven seasons in Europe, the last five of them in the Great Britain-based EIHL. He's headed into his 12th pro season, and last season he earned 17-24--41 totals for the Braehead Clan.
