Letter: Parnell takes puzzling stands on working Alaskans, Medicaid

August 26, 2013

Alaska Hire has created untold jobs for Alaska by giving Alaskans a 90 percent preference when hiring for state works programs. Unfortunately, Sean Parnell just repealed part of this program.

If Sean Parnell claims he is willing to fight the federal government to block Medicaid coverage, as he stated in his recent op-ed, would he not then be willing to defend a provision that gives jobs to Alaskans?

I guess the question that must be asked then is why is Parnell willing to cut this provision that helps working Alaskans, but fight tooth and nail against a law that gives health coverage to all Alaskans?
