Contrary to what diamond advertisements say, rocks are not forever, fish are. If we take care of our fisheries and act as good stewards, Bristol Bay will be forever replete with fish. No matter how you look at it, the Pebble mine will only last so long, and at some point all the copper will be gone. Is it really worth risking a beautiful hallmark of Alaska for making a quick profit and leaving behind a toxic pit where there once was a beautiful landscape?
I agree with the conclusion that Jason Metrokin reached in his Compass of Aug. 24, that Pebble is a dangerous gamble and the EPA needs to stop it if no other organization is willing to do so.
